Contact

She sat alone, her face half turned away,
Her silhouette traced by the morning sun,
Two hopeful searchers met in a cafe,
Time stood amidst a city on the run

Now palm trees swayed beneath a starry sky
To frame man's plight through time and endless space,
Their hands had locked to rest upon her thigh,
The softest kiss did cause his heart to race

Thus time now passed to find them in the room
Where Jesus stood atop the world to save,
Across the bed lay she upon her womb
And wept from whence their souls each other gave

Still back in time he finds himself to go
In the cafe where first he said hello

Two Ladybugs

A ladybug landed on his shirt
and stretched her wings
he offered his finger
and she mounted
accepting the wrinkled,
time-caked skin
of his knuckle
as a short term lease
before taking off
He watched her fly away
for as long as his eyes could follow
before she vanished
leaving in her place
a young, beautiful woman
standing on the other side of the road
dressed as a ladybug
He was always between
his past and his future,
though never in the present
He stood between the heart-swelling glory
of green leaves and pink clouds,
between chance, providence,
and the abject fear
of the possibility
that none of it even mattered

When Two Pieces of Shit Kiss

When two pieces of shit kiss each other
They wonder if they're doing it right
Part of the kiss is spent fearing
Their breath might be bad
Or whether they're using enough tongue
Other parts of the kiss are devoted to
Pondering why anyone would want to kiss
A piece of shit such as themselves in the first place
Most of the kiss, though,
Most of it
Is spent forgetting that they were ever
Pieces of shit to begin with
And hoping that the kiss could last and last

Janie Jones

I kept looking at your lips
Because I wanted to kiss them
And while you talked
I imagined what that kiss would be like
I'm sure you couldn't tell
That I was shaking from excitement
Most of the time
It happens when I can't contain myself
You dipped back into the banana cream pie
And I imagined kissing whatever hurt
Under the Band-Aids wrapped around your fingers
I would've smoked a pack of cigarettes
To calm myself
But I was too busy keeping you laughing
Because I'm addicted to your smile

Upper Sea (上海)

Listen to chirping, the shrieking of green trees, first
Softly then loudly from corner to corner, then
Bouncing from sidewalks to buildings and billboards that
Glow from the hum of pink neon vibrations, this

City smells hot from the rot of decay from the
Vegetables lying in alleys that twist from my
Sight to the shadows that hang by the hinges of
Night's humid cloak draped over this fading sad

Laughter, for these are the last days of my time in
Shanghai, the Land that gave birth to the yearning to
Swallow all life has to offer, the chirping, the
Shrieking of green trees, the chirping, the shrieking

Gilding the Neurons

Encapsulate this, transcribed
Make it plain so that memory
may embellish upon it
later on
Glorify or villify
To whatever suites your purpose
later on
But right now - for right now
Let it hit you
Wave after wave
Let the tide suck you out
and lose you from the shore
Be stranded
Lay afloat in a sea of darkness
And calm your heart
Something will come of this
Then
Start swimming
Swim any which way you want
Your wake
will tell you where you are going

Stupid Tick Head

Under my skin like the head of tick
Who's plump body I sent flying
With a flick of my finger
But your head's still there
Burrowing for my heart
The biggest prize of all
It's just food for you, though
Not love - I'm to be your meal
But I'll pretend it's love
And let you chew through
All the dark layers of
Subcutaneous sorrow
I'll pretend it's love and
Skip from cloud to cloud
While your stupid tick head
Bounces around inside my heart
Constantly drinking to fill a body
That I swear I flicked away
